Around the Diamond looks at our favorite baseball articles and observations throughout the internet.  Here's what we're reading this week.

-Tim Brown of Yahoo's The Postgame chronicles Braves infielder Brooks Conrad's journey to the majors and the emotional night that almost changed his life forever.

-Outfielder Jayson Werth has not had a terrific first year for the Washington Nationals, but one local bar is taking advantage of his struggles this season by offering beers for the price of the outfielder's batting average.

-SB Nation's Rob Neyer recently presented his WTF Player of the Year Awards, and he even went way back and commended pitcher John Patterson's 2005 season.

-The Kevin Costner-owned Lake County Fielders independent league team has had a chaotic season already, but perhaps the weirdest incident took place this week when their radio announcer made a drastic move and quit while live on the air.

-Baseball Prospectus' Mike Fast recently reviewed pitch data and strike zone definitions for different hitters over the past few seasons.

-With Twins slugger Jim Thome on the brink of 600 career home runs, David Schoenfield of ESPN.com's SweetSpot blog takes a look at some other members of the 600 homer club and who they hit those lofty numbers against.

-Victor Martinez proves that one doesn't have to beat a throw to the plate to score a run, so long as one can come up with a nifty slide.

-USA Today's Steve Gardner examines exactly how MLB's July trade market can cause commotion for fantasy rosters.

-Bleacher Report imagines 30 baseball players as comic book superheroes and villains. (warning: slideshow)

-Almost two months after we saw a woman in Houston deplorably steal a foul ball from a little girl, a youngster in Arizona shows genuine class by returning a foul ball to a fan who dropped it. (warning: both videos autoplay)
